This last weekend was the Node.js Knockout (http://nodeknockout.com/), a
48-hour programming contest. For those who haven't heard, node.js is the
new hotness in web development. It lets you run javascript code on the
server and has hooks for doing stuff like file i/o and networking. Since
it's javascript, it's very asynchronous and can do some awesome stuff.
This contest was to make some cool node.js app in 48 hours.

My team made a multiplayer sidescroller shooter called Tube Warriors
where you're this punk baby type person running around websites shooting
other people. You have to see it to understand: http://www.tubewarriors.com/

It's multiplayer, so if you're the only one in there, get some friends
to join too. It works best in Chrome or Safari because they support
websockets natively, but Firefox 3 will run it too (faking websockets
with a flash object, so it's choppier). It's a little rough around the
edges because we introduced some bugs in the last hour and half of
polishing it up and had to revert to a previous deploy because we
weren't allowed to commit anything new. But it totally works.
