it's not actually a duopoloy unlike wireline broadband to your house.
there are in fact 4 more or less nationwide networks. and a 5th one on
the way.

There are a couple of rapid reversals of fortune coming down the pipe in
the US carrier space. in some respects it's like turning over tiles on a
go board. the still want some value add over being a dumb bit pipe but
that isn't going to last for exactly the same reason you don't have to
care what cellular network you kindle is on.
