Before ordering an expensive new antenna, try boosting the output on the
adapter. Most adapters default to something like 150mA to reduce heat
output. With the right drivers, a good adapter can get up to 500mA or
even 1w of output.
You can also try getting a wifi booster. The adapter plugs into one end
and the antenna in the other. hawking technology has a reasonably good
one you can get at microcenter:
