I will research the lag issue a bit more.

Another aesthetic issue I already know about is the solid white start-up 
screen.

Programming a start-up screen isn't built into the Android SDK (unlike 
iPhone's SDK) and requires custom java coding.

A cool start-up screen will hopefully make into beta 3.
