[Noisebridge-discuss] [POLICY] be more considerate and more careful

i don't like the indiscriminate use of the [DRAMA] tag because
in my mind it's inappropriate for some discussions.
this is a complaint, mainly, and by implication a proposal. it
certainly seems the seed for drama, i'll grant.

COMPLAINT: we seem not to respect the work of others enough (my
work, in this case, but i think it applies generally).

PROPOSAL: communicate more better and when doing, be more aware
of others' prior foot- and hand-prints.

DETAILS: those doing should have at the ready something to use to
label what's up--in my case, my deficiency, though i've spoken to
people and emailed on the list. i'll add paper signs and wiki info
to my media list.

CASES:

* the storage room should be orderly, especially with respect to
the light bulbs that are behind the partition that is behind the
equipment rack. i found EMT pipe had fallen into the section for
lightbulb storage--not good! bad effects include broken glass to
clean up as well as diminution of our light bulb supply.

* books moved about and possibly lost. I went to a lot of trouble
and expense to get the books as well as supplies for shelves. i've
worked in the computer book making industry (Editorial Director
of The Waite Group) and know a fair amount about computer books in
general. having invested in the books, i think it seems reasonable
that no one would perform an irreversible operation on them without
discussion that includes me, hopefully, or at least some others
involved with the NB "library".
e.g. the fact that a computer book is old is not sufficient
reason to get rid of it; in a few cases, old computer books are
the only source of knowledge, which is now assumed as well-known
in newer computer books.

* electrical repairs: please use the scrap wire we have before
you use the solid wire on spools. scrap wire is on the top landing
of the stairs behind the double doors on the south wall.
also, please always use black wire for receptacles only. use
red wire for lights and appliances.
also, please always pull one black, one unswitched red, and
one white wire in every pipe, along with whatever other wires you
want to pull (typically one extra switched red, possibly another
black and red and white trio).
if the above doesn't make sense to you, at least fundamentally
(e.g. what's the deal with always having a black, red, and white
wire), please refrain from doing any electrical work.

* LAN and internet access. it strikes me as important that this is
open for general use, but there certainly are considerations of
respecting the work people have put into getting it up and running.
i'm hoping for improved wiki, email, and sign communications
(and willing to help if i can).
