my statement was badly worded.
the oses ive used provide some really basic stuff, and a 'list' of
things like cycles used/memory required/interrupt latency. you only need
to do anything if you do/need something that falls out of these ranges.
there are things like rt-linux that give some weaker 'guarantees' along
w/ nice things like memory allocation/etc :-).
