FWIW, I tried a few times to get -w working but failed. Something
always borked about the tun devices.

It also requires root on both machines ('cause of the tun devices
again), which a mere -D socks proxy doesn't.

Is there an advantage that -w gives that -D does not? I confess ignorance here.
