Thanks to everyone who applied to me directly, especially for the
description of how to pots work.

I discoverd that my next store neighbor is an electrical engineer. He
came over with an oscilloscope, and helped me eventually figure out
that I hade connected a single wire wrong. doh!

Everything is working great now. Now to put it on a permanent board
and mount it.
