I'm a NERT (in addition to being a nerd) and this just came my way. I won't
be able to attend but you might want to. I don't have any details except
what's in the email. From the letter, it doesn't sound like you need to be a
NERT to attend.

Subject: [NoeValleyNERT] Special SF Water System Tour

Here's a message from Edie about an upcoming tour of the historic
Pump Station 2, part of San Francisco's AWSS (Auxiliary Water Supply System.

>From Eddit Schaeffer:

All,

NERT Program Coordinator Lt. Erica Arteseros has convinced SFFD Deputy Chief
Michael Thompson to do one more tour of Pump Station 2, which is part of the
Auxiliary Water Supply System (AWSS). The tour will take place on Thursday,
May 13, at 6 p.m., at Pump Station 2, which is located at the end of Van
Ness Avenue at McDowell Avenue, near Fort Mason.

Pump Station 2 is on the US National Register of Historic Places, and
deservedly so. But this is a working pump station -- it is part of the AWSS.
Our SFFD uses the AWSS on a regular basis to prevent fires from becoming
conflagrations. The system is especially important in a disaster, because it
makes additional water (including sea water) available to help fight fires,
and it is vital when high pressure water is needed.

If you or your team members can go, do. This is an amazing place to visit,
and it plays a huge role in keeping us safe every day. Pam and I went last
Saturday, and there were only three NERTs there (including us). We can do
better than that!

Best to all,

Edie Schaffer, Neighborhood Coordinator
