Here is an amazing opportunity for students in many disciplines
including Art, Music, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering,
Manufacturing, etc…

CSU SUMMER ARTS WILL BE OFFERING THE FOLLOWING WORKSHOP THIS SUMMER:
“Building Reactive Sculpture: Spaces &Objects, Sound & Movement”

Course description: This course will teach students to build sculptures
that electrically and/or mechanically activate an environment. Our
visiting artists will work closely with students as they lead them
through hands-on demonstrations that apply concepts in art, sound,
engineering, DIY, and electronics to building interactive sculpture.
Students will work on individual and group assignments as they learn a
range of tools and skills including simple soldering, sound processing,
hacking, microcontroller usage, and communication between circuits and
computers. Three areas of responsive art will be explored:
kinetic/aural, electronic control, and sensory/reactive. The workshop
will include an exhibition/performance of student work.

Coordinated by Sheri Simons, ssimons at csuchico.edu

Students will work closely with world-class sculptor/composer/inventor,
Trimpin, and artist, Mark Allen from Machine Project, L.A., for two
weeks and receive 3 units of upper division credit. We have four
fulltime techs to assist students: an electrical engineer, composer,
audio engineer, and manufacturing instructor. Students need not have
prior experience in music or electronics.
