Not going to comment on the OP topic per se, but just as a tertium quid:

Frantisek, do you have a couchsurfing.org account?

If not, I suggest you make one. I'll vouch for you on it if you want
to help you get started.

There are >400 'yes or definitely' couches in SF - double that if you
include 'maybe's. Given your general demeanor I think you would find
it very, very easy to get a good reputation on CS, which would make it
fairly easy for you to have a couch at any given time for quite a
while. The downside is of course that it requires more work to keep
finding new places, contact people, figure out their boundaries, move
your stuff, etc... but I suspect you'd actually be really good at
that.

IME (after about a dozen surfs) hosts have been extremely nice, and I
think you'd make a great guest; you have plenty of stories and skills
to share. Try it.
