Hey Noise Boys and Bridge Babes,

Frequent visitor/acolyte/hacker-in-training Tony
Longshanks<http://convozine.com/longshanks>here with an idea I'd like
feedback on. (Criticism, enlightenment, wild
raves of enthusiasm, etc.) Stop me if you've heard this one before, but I
was talking with a couple other Noise Boys the other night about whether
there is or has been an official, or semi-official, NB publication. Zine,
magazine, lit mag, newsletter, peer-reviewed scientific journal, quarterly
chapbook, what-have-you. (I'm fully into experimenting with existing form
and creating a beautiful hybrid monster.) From what I gather there is no
publication answering that description at the present time. Since I
discovered the Bridge a couple months ago, I've been sussing out the space
with a mind to figuring out what exactly I can contribute, either as a
participant in an existing group or by starting up a new one. I think this
could be it.

My background: published creative author, blogger, journalist, zinester,
editor & printmaker, with additional experience in organizing and
PR/promotions. I'm envisioning a "Hacker's Digest" of sorts that would be
part science, part art/lit journal, possibly part cookbook, with other
sections as appropriate or as suggested by other members, so as to
represent the diverse facets of the NB hackerspace. I want it to be
collaborative. As a writer I spend too much time creating in an
independent, somewhat "solipsistic" or antisocial fashion, so this would be
a great opportunity for me to create in a more communal way. I think it
would be great if our publication could be available full-text online and
also in limited-edition print runs that would probably be mostly black &
white with color covers. (I'm fully aware of the exorbitant cost of color
printing.)

I've been brainstorming a list of possible titles, which others should add
to. The first ones I thought of were things like WordBridge, Bridgebook.
But I want a title with the aesthetic zing of
*Rollerderby<http://zinewiki.com/Rollerderby>
,* that also captures the science-mindedness of the hackerspace. A couple I
really like so far are
*Scatterplot*<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scatter_plot>and
*Polymath <http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/polymath>. *I've also got
some titles in Latin, Greek, German (CCC, our mothership), French and
Spanish.

I like *Scatterplot *a lot since, aside from its scientific significance,
it captures the "scattered plot" of the space, with its various diverse
groups doing different things (in a somewhat scatterbrained way) all under
one umbrella.

Anyway, I hope everyone's making noise and building bridges and let's speak
in person soon, if my proposal is of interest to you. I've never made it
yet to a Tuesday night meeting because Homes Not Jails meets at the exact
same time (I'm also a squatter), but I'm at NB all the time. I've been
word-of-mouthing the idea for the past few days, & there seems to be some
enthusiasm. Perhaps soon a group of us can meet & talk it over.

See ya
