Most laptops already come with a handy, standardized "lock" port that
you can put a cheap laptop to-bench cable on.   It wouldn't stop
someone absolutely determined to take it of course, but it does work
pretty well to encourage people not to take it from the room.    If
you put it on a reasonably long piece of plastic-coated steel cable,
it would allow someone to move it to wherever is convenient in the
room (subject to the length of the USB cable attached to the laser
cutter)...
