I've just finished installing a very loud buzzer over the door,
activated by a button downstairs next to the elevator call button.

As anyone who's ever tried to use the elevator knows, it sometimes gets
into a state where the call buttons don't work.  If you need to get up
in the elevator and it won't come down, press that buzzer (you'll hear
it).  If you hear the buzzer (which you will, unless you're using a
power tool, maybe), get in the elevator immediately and ride it down
because someone is stuck.
