Many, me included, feel that locking things up at Noisebridge, or introducing things that signal a need for locking things up here will change the mood of the space to something contrary to the vision that Noisebridge was built to be.

This argument adresses that in NO way whatsoever. I don't want locks. You tell me to just not use the locks, while ignoring the reasons I object to locks in the first place.

If you mine the mailing lists to the really early days of 2169, you'll see similar noises around what was once the DJ booth, later tea room, future (hopefully) Epilog lasering room... This is why there was for a long time no staircase and no door there.

I don't like a space where you feel you need to lock your things up. This sends bad signals. Again, not something I can deal with without you listening.

Soooooo... your solution is not creating more storage space?

WHOA!

You are seriously trying to solve the problem of having enough project storage by removing shelves and then introduce lockable entities? HOW on EARTH is this a better idea than to just store a hack-bin on a shelf?

Also, Moxie's comment about enumerating and meeting concerns in a consensus process is REALLY important. This is not about numbers, and it cannot possibly be about numbers and for/against in a consensus space. It's about acknowledging the concerns leveraged and working with those speaking up to find solutions that will actually get everyone onboard.

Please, please, PLEASE recognize this and its implications for your own posture here.
