    i agree with both rachel and rubin: they've each 
said it well. 
    i sympathize with al, but his proposal is not 
enforceable and, if it were, does not allow for 
unpredictable cases (e.g. rachel's story). 
    consider the angle that if something bad happens, 
it's common to try to create a rule or some such to 
prevent the bad thing from recurring--resist that 
urge: the next bad thing will be different, and to 
set up rules to prevent bad things mainly just 
accumulates rules. 
    tolerate bad things, deal with them as they occur, 
persist, accept, do....
