Hey Steven!
Maybe I was misunderstanding you, but I have some thoughts on selling ideas.
I don't have a lot of personal experience with this, but I can say that most
of the time, "ideas" are worthless. I've heard murmors of toy companies
buying ideas from people, but I'm not even sure those were real stories. I
think the vast majority of the time you'll get nowhere trying to sell just
your idea. To make money, you have to turn your idea into a product
yourself, and sell the product. The real value of a product is about 1% idea
and 99% implementation.
Think about it: myspace and facebook both had the same idea, but facebook is
worth billions and no one wants to buy myspace. People in the business world
know this, so they don't put much value on ideas alone.
I've been working on my own startup lately, and reading a lot
(StartupDigest, VentureHacks, Paul Graham's essays - all good reading), and
the one thing I hear over and over is that ideas are worthless.
So maybe I misunderstood you, but if you are just hoping to sell your ideas,
you may end up disappointed. If you have any good ones, I suggest building a
prototype and seeking funding to start a company around it yourself!
Good luck!
-Taylor
