Or you can use "Dyer's Blue", obtainable from any grocery store, used
in tiny amounts in dry cleaning.  It's pretty permanent though, so use
with caution.  (Props to Michael Westin of Burn Notice for this idea)

Possibly a more subtle approach is the UV luminescent dye that's sometimes
used in tear gas spray cans.  That way, the thief doesn't know he/she is
tagged, and it doesn't ruin clothing if it accidentally goes off.
