So I just checked.... looks like both processors are  Socket
775<http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/496/Intel_Core_2_Quad_Q6600_vs_Intel_Pentium_Dual-Core_E2160.html>
(e2160 and q6600)

so looks like I should just upgrade my other desktop pc with the quadcore
chips in the deadPC.

the chip.... my question is how critical is putting the thermal paste
between the CPU cover and heatsink?   don't have any "thermal paste" around
the house and am sort of getting the immediate gratification thing going on
 :-)

Not sure if we have any hanging around NB, either.  (Frys really needs to
open a store in  SF or emeryville)
