Hi Johny, After reading your email, I can't tell what you are asking for. Do you need teachers? Do you need people to do assembly? Do you need people to commit to certain number of sessions? Do people show up at certain times? Is there a schedule? Thanks,Mitch.

Hello Electronics Hobbyists
Some disadvantaged teens and young adults really need your circuit skills.

THE PROJECT
The Bayview BOOM, Parade and Mentoring Project, has acquired about 40 audio amplifier circuit kits, batteries, woofers, and tweeters. We have prototyped a practical recipe. We are going to guide teens and young adults through soldering together these circuits, and assembling them into bicycle sound systems. Then, they will ride them in the Bayview BOOM Parade, on Saturday, 10/29 at 11 am.
Burning Man's BRAF gave us a small grant to promote communal culture and economic opportunity in a struggling, predominantly African American community, San Francisco's Bayview Hunters Point:

Please be one of our electronics guides. We really need you. The sound system classes will be daily, starting now until Friday, 8/28, at locations in and near Bayview Hunters Point. Now is when we need you, for two or more two-hour sessions.
You'll work in a safe environment, such as a community center or school, one-on-one with a small group of 1 to 3 mature teens and young adults, who are ready and willing to spend two hours working with delicate parts and tools. We will not put you with any kids with behavior issues.

Our systems require two 2-hour sessions to complete.
We also have a simpler, solder-free system, for a few participants, which can be wired up in one session.
The circuits are not complicated, so if you have done any electronic circuit assembly, it won't be difficult for you. The BOOM is providing tools, but we need you on our team.
PLEASE contact me right away. If ever there was a critical time for you to open a new door for teen or young adult, and have fun doing it, this is it. I can tell you from experience, these folks have talent andenthusiasm, and they will be very appreciative. We are offering a $20 stipend for each 2-hour session you complete (but feel free to waive your fee, since we are on a very tight budget).
The 23, 24, 44, and 54 muni buses go to Bayview.

SPEAKER ENCLOSURES
The one part of our system recipe we are still working out is the driver enclosure. So if you'd like to help us develop our enclosuredesign, that would be superb. We need this resolved and components acquired by this Wednesday 8/26.
Enclosure budget: $0 to $10, highly rigid, air-tight, and weather-resistant. We're looking at PVC or cardboard Sonor mold tubes used for concrete. Mod podge all over the cardboard Sonor tubes, but seeking other suggestions. Paint-on plastic?
No idea where to begin for PVC.
Our woofers are 6.5" and 8" in diameter. These are indoor drivers, so the current plan is to weather-proof the drivers themselves with a thin layer of mod podge, but seeking other suggestions. It would be preferable to stretch water-resistant pantyhose over them, if such a thing exists. Anybody know of something like that?

IN CONCLUSION
If you're concerned about whether you will be welcomed by this community, know that there are MANY non-African Americans who live in ,work in, go to college in, and volunteer throughout this region. I lived in Bayview for 1.5 years. I know of no case where an outsider involved in community work was hassled down here. Folks in Bayview are friendly and grateful to anyone lending a hand. This is one of the most fascinating parts of San Francisco.
If you'd like to help us make this bicycle sound-system parade a reality, please reply right away, or call me at 415-68-WHEEL (415-689-4335), or contact me through our website.
We are extremely grateful for your expertise and enthusiasm!
Many Thanks,Johny Radio
