By doorbell, I mean the ability to push a button on street level and
make an annoying noise in the space. This noise then results in a
near-Pavlovian response wherein a person in the space automatically
pushes the "open door" button and goes back to their desk.

By door button, I mean the button that opens the door from the 3rd
floor. I don't mean any of the opengate systems on Pony.

In any case, what do you think the consequences of either of these would be?

Also agreed. I think the regulars vs. guests discussion is external to this.

What I'm working on is a modification of gatebot that does away with the
access code. Instead, there is a list of phone numbers for whom the gate
is opened when a call with matching caller-ID is received. Anybody who
has access to Pony will be able to edit this list. The list will be
hashed for privacy purposes. Phone numbers will be associated with an
arbitrary handle; useful for removing access but otherwise unused. Usage
of the system will not be logged.
