Thank you kindly Gaurav for saving us from oblivion this
month :-)

Bay Area (Hacker's Association|Security Enthusiasts) Meeting!

2nd Sunday of every month, 2pm, at Noisebridge, in the main area.

It lasts until it's over.

It's for people interested in security, not the more general "make
stuff" kind of hacking.

Date of Meeting:
================
2pm (1400), August 12th 2012
Always second sunday of the month

This month we present:
======================

Gaurav Kumar

On:

Automating Security Assessments Using OVAL

Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) is fundamentally changing
the way security assessments are done. Open Vulnerability Assessment
Language (OVAL) is one of the most important part of SCAP. During
this talk, Gaurav will provide brief overview of SCAP and demo how
OVAL can be used to perform extensive security assessments including
vulnerability detection and assessing OS security configuration using
free open source tool "OVAL Interpreter".

About the Author:

For the last 9 years, Gaurav has been building and breaking (with
permission) security systems for large corporations like Honeywell,
Microsoft and Credit Suisse. He developed interest in security when he
accidentally created a cordless phone sniffer using standard FM radio
circuit during his teenage. An innovator by heart, he built wireless
intrusion detection systems at Honeywell Technology Labs. He developed
interest in white box hacking while performing security code reviews
for Microsoft's mission critical corporate network and its
customers. An open source enthusiast, just for fun and learning, he
runs a Linux based router, an IDS, and SIEM to protect his home
network which includes his favorite gaming console XBOX :)

Location:
=========

https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Noisebridge

2169 Mission St, San Francisco, CA, USA, Earth, Milky Way, Known Universe

Finding the space can be tricky; it has a red circular logo above the
otherwise inconspicuous door, and is next to a market that sells
fruit. It is very close to 16th and Mission BART stop. If you're
driving, leave 15-30 minutes extra to find parking due to the heavy
traffic around there, but you do not have to pay on Sundays.

Speaker?

If you would like to be a speaker, or know someone who would,
please let us know.
