Kary Mullis developed PCR. His field is, as you noted, chemistry. Biology is not his field.

Mullis also doesn't believe that the ozone layer was thinning, that climate change is real, and that astrology is real. He has spoken with a glowing green raccoon which ‘was some sort of holographic projection and … that multidimensional physics on a macroscopic scale may be responsible’.

Isaac Newton spent many years on alchemy among other rather inaccurate ideas. If he could be so wrong, anybody can.

Out of curiosity, do you know how many Nobel laureates believe that HIV does, in fact, cause AIDS? Presumably if the number was greater than 3 you would be willing to change your opinions?
