Okay, I sent a slightly snappy private mail to this earlier, so I'm
going to pay reparation for that by writing a long dull one.
TL;DR: probably you or Francisco should mail a mediator, it will be more
lovely that way.
If Francisco is not around, and you don't like it that Francisco is not
around (and presumably Francisco isn't too happy), one or both of you
want that fixed. Almost certainly the people that you think actually
made him leave (and are messaging) aren't the people best placed to
start the process of getting him back.
Mailing the list isn't going to fix that, but it does the job of
highlighting the problem. But right now it leaves so much stuff unsaid
and unclear that anyone reading this is:
1) Sad that what you said is true, and co-bummed (bad phrase, yeah, cheers thx) ) along with you.
2) Unsure, because no background data is given, how to determine whether
it is true (is it REALLY Lord Claypool, faking mail from Tony etc etc)
3) Angry, because something sad has happened that they have no control
over.
4) Sad or dismissive because they feel that their part of the story
hasn't been revealed ("I threw Francisco out because it turned out his
vinegar was *turning people into fruit flies*!")
So we have a bunch of emotions that we cannot handle, and no actual way
to fix things.
We have ways to fix things. We like to fix things. But being dorks you
have to treat this not as a fait accompli to mourn, but a bug to be
fixed.
Here is what I, or anyone else in the Noisebridge community, needs to
know in the bug report in order to fix this. You don't need to mail the
bug report to this to the rest of the list, but you (or Francisco) do
hand it to someone who can and wants to help fix the problem. This may
just involve you mailing yourself, because you can fix it as well as
anyone else. It's okay if you don't have the time, or care enough to do
this. But if you don't have the time or care, here is what that someone
needs to know:
* Is Francisco really gone? Is he unhappy? Talk to him, find out the
story.
* Who is he so pissed with that he's left, or who do-acratically decided
to escort him out or moan at him?
* What led up to this situation? What triggered the conflict? Is there
something deeper than this that is actually the core of the
problem. Don't guess, eke this out of the people involved in there own
words.
Right now, that information is Highly Distributed. The first step is
collect it all in one place. That place does not have to be public.
Now that person sits and think and talk with these people until either
there's a solution, or the person can't come up with one and need more
help, in which case we can take it to meeting or throw more resources at
it.
This is hacking too. Go for it. It may sound terrifying or
time-consuming, or stressful, but speaking as someone who is a stress
bunny, it is amazingly less stressful than a world where nothing can be
fixed and that the people you deal with are being targetted by
incomprehensible or fundamentally evil people in positions of
unassailable power. Much of the world feels that way, but everyone wants
Noisebridge to not be part of that world.
https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Mediation has more and better on this.
