Another thing that went through my mind when playing with a similar thought
(so: no shareable anecdote but idea to test), was to start with a probably
bad conductor (carbon based ink ?) that is easily printed with a silkscreen
process. Then proceed with coating this in a second round with a better
conductor using a galvanic process, with copper (maybe with gold as third
step to have a shiny and non-corrosive surface - but the chemicals (and
metal of course) is expensive). Of course, the devil is in the detail: the
thin metal will probably break easily (still there is the carbon thing
below as back-up). And submerging fabric in Copper(II)sulfat is probably as
well potentially problematic.
