[Noisebridge-discuss] Anti-sleepers / Livers at Noisebridge

It's true that waking someone up and asking them to leave can be difficult
if it's just you. That's why I always rally two or more people to join
me before approaching a sleeper. Waking up to find three people looking
at you tends to work very well in precluding any argument.
It's much much easier to rally a couple of people to help you before you
wake the person up than after. And realistically, if you can't rally at
least one person to join you, it is understandable if you don't try to
wake the person up. If you can photograph them without a flash that might
be helpful, and post to the list about finding them, but nobody expects
you to be able to get them out by yourself.
In such cases, the problem needs to be solved by improved technology. Our
subcontractors (rayc) are working on improving the lighting on the door
camera, and the noisebridge security team has deleted the door code which
was being used by the most people. So hopefully, sleepers and livers will
be pressing the door button again and we will have the option of ignoring
them when we see them on the door camera.

Tonight as I was working in the Church, I heard someone snoring. I found
that obnoxious asian guy sleeping in the DJ booth. I woke him up and
asked him to leave. In the process, I found a guy named Jason sleeping
on the couch.
I don't like doing this and it got very tense because the asian guy did
NOT want to leave. Jason was cool about it. I let Jason slide on
Saturday night. I received very little support from the other users.
This is not appreciated.
If I can't get support from other users for enforcing this rule, then I
won't do it. I don't like doing it and I was very respectful. I can't
say the respect was reciprocated. The word "Fight" was mentioned.
I told them to come back on Tuesday night if they wanted to appeal my
actions. It is my understanding that the Asian guy has already been
banned for making homophobic comments, but it's conjecture.
I also informed Martin that any drunkness or sleeping will be tolerated
by me, no matter how much I like him. I treated him like an adult and a
friend and he was receptive. I told him that his name may arise in the
Tues. meeting. He is considering attending the meeting or simply taking
a sabbatical for a week or two.
Please, if the collective wants the sleeping rule enforced then they
should support the person that enforces it. I always give people
multiple chances and need help when I draw the line.
Thank you.
