Maestro, what you said offended more than just one person (it offended
me, too). Using hurtful language and being inconsiderate will offend
people, and it shouldn't surprise you that someone might ask you to
chill out or apologize. It's a good sign that this was the first
response to you, because normally one just filters out trolls instead
of trying to reason with them, so Liz must have thought you were a
decent person worth keeping around the space if she wanted to talk to
you instead of just filtering your noise.

Your gut response may be to flail and troll and flame on the mailing
list as a response and whine about how you don't want people telling
you what to do when they ask rather politely (given that you were not
polite at all) that you be more cautious in your choice of words in
the future, but right now you're dealing with people that you probably
see in the space, in person, pretty frequently, and are going to have
to deal with once you step off the flaming mailing list thread.

Claiming that people who are offended are carrying an agenda to
control you is silly.
