the monitor by the lasercutter has a problem with the buttons, and it may 
not be possible to switch input modes.  It's worth a try, but don't count 
on it with your life.

also, if you receive the digest version of the mailinglist, you need to 
manually put the subject line in place of the name of the digest, or it 
won't get threaded properly.
