The article explores the idea of financial instruments that are denominated in terms of energy. Not a new idea (Buckminster Fuller hit on this in 1969), but it points out that technology and financial services entrepreneurs could develop this by leveraging existing commodities markets to create something like Bitcoin, but backed with energy commodities/reserves.
