In order to be Good Science, your study should list the most significant
factors likely to cause discrepancies in this test. for example,
noisebridge allows anyone to come in off the street without vetting or
supervision. How many of the other spaces do that?
I have long advocated for tigher entry controls, so that we can filter out
people who are not coming to noisebridge to hack but rather to steal or
make a mess, or get drunk and squat, etc.
Its obvious that stuff will be better respected in a Private or Members
Only hackerspace than in a building in the mission where ANYONE can enter
at any time.
I welcome any suggestions as to how we can better filter who is coming in
through the door. I know some people say the camera is counterproductive
or inadequate but I look forward to constructive suggestions.
Please see my next post about door opening credentials.

NoiseBridge )
*) BitCoin was stolen on 10/14, BTC transferred on 10/15
*) Screwdriver and case was stolen on 10/18
*) Make Component Pack was opened on 10/24, some components scattered
into the electronics area and moved to member shelf area, mostly empty
case went missing from member shelf area 11/3
*) Android phone was stolen 10/15, pre-paid SIM was used all over the
bay area (mostly Berkeley) until 11/9, phone recovered from BART
police on 1/8 smashed/damaged
*) DefCon Jacket was stolen 10/18
Draw your own conclusions. The experiment was interesting, but it
definitely points to some culture issues.
