[Noisebridge-discuss] asked james to leave

A year and a half ago in the height of occupy (and the influx of troubles
noisebridge had as a result) I got into an argument with James when I was
saying that people are responsible for who they allow into noisebridge.
He loudly took the position that he was not responsible for anything, and
simply talked over me in any discussion. He did eventually come to a
meeting, and i think he was told that his attitude was wrong and
unhelpful.

on a similar note, the other night I was at noisebridge late, when the
street people come "home", and Pirate Mike arrived. Upon seeing his
friends, he said "hey guys, i had a great idea. Noisebridge is supposed
to be about hacking. We occupy, so we should hack occupation by occupying
noisebridge."

I can't say i got the words exactly right but that's as close to a quote
as i can get. I think it explains a lot about what's going on.

I think that it's reasonable to expect homeless people to do whatever they
can to have noisebridge as a place to spend the night, a place to eat and
cook food, and a place to pull cash out of the donation and t-shirt money
box. You or I would probably do the same thing in their situation.

So i think it's reasonable for hackers trying to have a nice hackerspace
to use basic minimal standards for entry, like being able to convince a
person who is involved enough to have their own code, to let you in.

if you're not willing to do anything to keep these people out, i don't see
the point in complaining about their behavior. They are just doing what
is reasonable for their needs. If we don't do the same, whose fault is
it?

Update on James: When I arrived at Noisebridge a little while ago, he
was outside. I asked if he was coming from or going to Noisebridge, or
just hanging out outside. He said he was just standing on the sidewalk,
and didn't want to talk to me, and said I should expect to be served
with a lawsuit for defamation of character. He also reiterated that he
will be at the Tuesday meeting.
