Thanks, everyone,  for your input.  I ended up buying a Nexus 4 from Google (with the free bump) with 16GB.  I also bought:
   * Grandmax Wireless Bluetooth Mini Keyboard for iPad & More (KB-BT1L-BK)
and
   * Satechi 10000 MaH Portable Energy Station Extended Battery Charger Pack
