I run latest 'bang' on a box & love it so far...
For use with the linux intimidated folks it has a great follow-up task page
post install they can jump into.
Very straight forward and gives them cool shit to install with good tools
to run all via command line.
Then they can make a bootable usb stick of latest knoppix and have a nice
little kit.

an old laptop and install CrunchBang or another lightweight, friendly,
desktop distribution and get it set up for an everyday computer. It'd be
very empowering for people to see that you don't need a fancy computer or
expensive software to have a great personal machine. (a machine that would
also be perfect for the Ruby/Rails class ;))

I need to spend some time coming up with material and writing
documentation. I could go into depth about things like configuration
management, scaling, installing linux, how linux works and all sorts of
things. Do you think there is interest? I am a Linux Systems Engineer by
trade. I also do some Windows stuff too.
