Hi Lisa, Internet Archive, and Noisebridge,

Today, Signal and I got permission from our company, Invitae, to release an
Open Source library of PubMed annotated content under the Apache License.

medgen-mysql:

https://bitbucket.org/invitae/medgen-mysql

This library aggregates tons of annotations about medical genetics recently
made available by the US National LIbrary of Medicine. We make these
annotations available in MySQL databases.

We worked really hard to get this library open-sourced in time for the
Aaron Swartz Hackathon this weekend, and also worked hard to smooth out the
interface so that you can basically just do this:

make <database_name>

...for databases like Clinvar, Pubmed, Gene, PersonalGenomes, and more.

We're hoping this library will catalyze some interesting explorative
hacking in the spirit of downloading academic content for great justice.

Signal and I will both be on-hand tomorrow to explain the contents of these
databases and suggest ways of using them.

See you tomorrow at the Internet Archive!

Much love,
Naomi
