I just spoke with the organizer of the Market Street Prototyping Festival. If you have even a vague idea of a cool project that could use $2,000 to get together, please write up whatever you're thinking before 10-Oct, and submit it to:

Here's the info they sent me:

Bringing Community,
Capacity & Connection
to Market Street

For three days in April 2015, five blocks of Market Street will become a
public platform as up to 50 of the most exceptional ideas for improving
San Francisco’s main thoroughfare come to life through art, innovation,
design and community. Any person, business or organization is welcome
to submit a proposal for a prototype, or model, which physically
demonstrates a new idea to make Market Street a more vibrant, active,
inviting and enjoyable place to be.

Chosen design teams will be announced on October 29th, 2014.
The Market Street Prototyping Festival is a collaboration between the
San Francisco Planning Department, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and
Knight Foundation. It honors San Francisco's ongoing commitment to
ensuring ideas gathered through a collective, community-based effort will
be incorporated into the planning and design process of public space.
We invite you to be a part of this exciting journey.

Best,

Mitch.
