[Noisebridge-discuss] Would there be interest in learning how to make a video game for a phone?

I'm not a gamer, either. But I really don't care much what the app is that we use. It's just an example of how to create an app, right? I'm fine with a game, or any other app others would like -- as long as I learn enough to start playing, and then I can create the apps I want. But, I'd say, leave it to the instructor to pick the example.

Hmm. Maybe a general class on something that's not necessarily a video game? I have personally played around with Titanium, Unity, PhoneGap, Spritebuilder, Xamarin, Intel's XDK, Xcode (for iOS) and Android Studio. I'm sure there's more I haven't heard of. Maybe we could spend a session or two going over the available platforms, then we could each come up with 10 or so ideas for an app, pick one, then and choose the appropriate platform to use. Anyone else on the list want to weigh in on what they would find useful?

I'm not that much into video game but I'm know Haxe and OpenFL well (using it for my day job), I can help with the teaching if you get something going.

This also sounds right up the alley of themade.org. They are a video game museum in Oakland. They have game jams on a regular basis, which are like hackathons but for making a game in a weekend. They too, might be a good place to host this or in addition to.

I'd love to be in that class! I'll probably have to miss some of the classes, though, since I'll be traveling. But it would be what I need to start learning how to make apps for phones.

I wanted to learn how to create a video game for a phone. I don't know what I wanted to build, but I want it to be 2D, and I would like to learn either Haxe or Spritbuilder to do it. Would there be interest in like a class where I would be sort of benevolent dictator for a group that teaches itself and comes out with a video game that we all create and put out there open source and sell in the app stores (for profit or donations to Noisebridge or something)? Maybe meet once a week or so at Noisebridge? I know people that use Haxe and Spritebuilder and could probably get one of them to come to a class and do a demo for us.
