For the edutainment of the group, here was my response to Slack today when
they sent us an email encouraging us to sign up for Premium service.

Hello Slack,

Thanks for going door to door making this incredible offer [1].

Noisebridge is a 501c3 educational institution, funded entirely by member
dues and totally stochastic donations.  We rent a 5000-sq-ft workshop in
the Mission, and we just had our rent jacked up by 10%.

We get internet access courtesy of MonkeyBrains, who dropped a giant-ass
internet laser on our roof one night and then said, "why haven't you
installed this yet; it's a freaking internet laser."  (We installed it.)

Our power bill is... high.  We are ever-vigilant for the roughly 3x-a-year
event where someone thinks they can hide a Bitcoin miner in our Definitely
Not a Server Closet and then conveniently forget that they left it plugged
in.

We do love Slack. Slack has been instrumental in our community cohesiveness
in the past year and a half.

However, while we'd be super stoked about being on your premium plan, the
added bill every month is not likely to ever make sense for us.

If you guys have any kind of nonprofit support programs, we can provide a
method for you to write something off on your corporate taxes.  It's
probably easier than putting a giant internet laser on our roof and
expecting us to install it.

No matter what happens, Slackers, remember: don't lose your cool!  [2]
