I agree with this sentiment too. Mercurial is so much cleaner in terms of
implementation than git, and it's *so* similar overall in use and structure
so I feel the conceptual leap for folks isn't that great.

However, git is definitely winning the publicity war these days in the "hip
kids" developer community. I'd much rather make it easy to collaborate with
others and reduce adoptive friction to doing so.
Personally, I still do lots of professional work in communities that use
CVS and Subversion, but prefer the git workflow. I can use other plugins
that retrieve and push differences to other VCSes, and synchronize and
prepare my changes with git as a client.

When I consider my life living under the iron fist of RCS, CVS, and
Subversion, any day I would take git, mercurial, or heck, even bzr.

pony:/var/hg is going nowhere, IMO.
