CHANGES TO THE SONIC ACCOUNT, PLEASE READ ON.
Summery: We have gone from paying $105 a month to $55 a month for about
the same service.
What we had:
* Approximately $105 per month (approximate due to annoyances of taxes)
* business class single line Fusion with phone service
* 20mbit down, 1mbit up
* 8 static IP addresses
The IPs were costing us $40 per month. And all that business class gets
us at this point is a listing in the white pages (the physical print out
thing) and a single use customized caller ID thing.
I asked about a nonprofit discount, they said that's not something they
offer but in California we can request a discounted phone line, which
might drop some money out of the total, the rep was unsure as to how
much but she emailed me info about it if the treasurer wants to fill
that out.
I also asked about getting refunded for the last few months of
non-service due to the line being cut and thrown out the window. They
couldn't do that, but did offer to send out an installer for free to
reattach the link. I thanked her for
They have new pricing for their fusion line service, which drops $10 off
the total (though we miss out on the business class perks, like white
pages listings). We are now on this cheaper deal.
I've asked to drop all static IPs but one (which saves us $40 a month),
we've classically haven't been the best about using them all, and
considering the Sonic link has been down for a few months now, I'm sure
we can figure out how to get back with just 1. If we want more IP
addresses it is trivial to call and ask and pay more. $10 for 1 extra,
$20 for 3 extra, $40 for 7 extra.
What we're on now:
* Approximately $55 per month (approximate due to annoyances of taxes)
* Single line Fusion with phone service
* 20mbit down, 1mbit up
* 1 static IP address
We have the option to upgraded to Bonded Fusion, which is basically two
DSL lines plugged into one modem. This gives us twice as much bandwidth.
Bonded Fusion:
* Approximately $140 per month (approximate due to annoyances of taxes)
* $150 installation fee
* 42mbit down, 2mbit up
* 1 static IP address
* Modem is leased from Sonic
Again I've basically switched over the service to the same plan but at a
cheaper price, and dropped all but 1 static address. I have *not* gotten
the more expensive Bonded service, as I feel that involves some
discussion. Additionally this doesn't impede any future choice we make
to cancel the line, it just means that we're paying less for
approximately the same service now until/if we make that decision.
