[Tastebridge] Could anyone pick up some Alder sawdust at Lazzari for me?

The coffee ground status that I observed on Monday is that the pressure-cooked bags, both supplemented and non-supplemented, are the furthest along, although none had fully colonized the bottom 1" or so yet.  It looks like the mycellium stalled and is colonizing this area very slowly.  That could be because the substrate just cannot hold the 65% water well and it gets too wet on the bottom; at least that is my guess.

The coffee grind bags that were not pressure cooked were not colonized well, although there seemed to be some headway since the pictures I last observed.  Colonization might take some months, but it will probably finish eventually.

My own project with Stipticus has taken a more scientific approach.  I am now fermenting the alder sawdust in a molasses solution per the guidelines in Paul Stamets Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms states for Reshi.  This worked before in 2007 and I actually got the mycellium to take off from the liquid culture using it, so I have high hopes.  It must ferment at least 3 days before I drain the sawdust, supplement, add vermiculite, and sterilize prior to inoculation with liquid culture.  The liquid culture looks perfect this time, and since I am following the step of my wildly successful 2007 Burning Man art display grow I think this should work.

If I were growing oysters, coffee grounds would work, but then again, with oystes you can also just rip up a pile of old catalogs or even some old cotton clothes and grow them just the same.  Basically the oysters grow on just about anything and are so ridiculously easy to grow that you really cannot mess them up if you follow the basic growing procedures.
 
What I am trying to grow now are Stipicus, a green-glowing mushroom species, which is a little more difficult to grow.  They do grow on sawdust blocks, and I will donate a couple blocks to the Noisebridge for observation once I can get them to colonize again.  Stipticus will not grow on coffee grounds, though, because coffee grounds are pH-balanced around neutral and have a decent buffering capacity whereas stpiticus grows well around a pH of 3.8 or so.  The buffering would mean I'd have to use loads of citric acid to get it to maybe work and citric acid can get to be pretty expensive if you are talking pounds of the stuff.  
 
I know alder works because I used it in 2007 in my Glowin Shrooms project on the playa, so I am trying to duplicate that success but on a larger scale this time.

What about more coffee grounds? Peets is happy to supply us with however much we can carry away. Not sure I have a way of drying them, but that didnt seem to harm the first batch we did.
