[Noisebridge-discuss] pipes for cables; news for the saturday cabling crew

saturday cabling crew:

the big pipe is in. the location of termination is
not necessarily what you see--we can extend either end
(with accuracy of about 12 inches unless we're just
adding a little straight stub).

best to use some kind of fishing line, some nylon
cord or something similar.
feed that in from the destination to the point
where the cable will enter the pipe--make sure the
fishing line is well-fastened to the cable bunch.
then someone push cable into the pipe while another
pulls the fishing line from the destination end.
the pusher should do the main work, the puller
should be somewhat gentle so's not to lose the
fishing line connection and not to cut the cable
where it's entering the pipe.

one way to pull is start at the ceiling L and
pull either across the workshop pipe or up into
the upstairs closet. when done, pull the other half
the other way--it'll be tough cramming the last
foot or so into the L.
the other way is to pull either from the L in
the downstairs closet (above the door) or from the
termination in the upstairs closet. it'll be tough
making the right angle of the L in the workshop
ceiling.

best to figure out just where the patch bays will
be located before cutting the cable to final length,
unless you're really sure and want to attach
connectors to cut cables before pulling them.
myself, i'd rather just pull raw cables and leave
extra at both ends, then after patch bays (and any
additional pipe) are settled, cut to size and the
put connectors on the cables at the two patch bay
locations, but i won't be there saturday, so do it
your way, of course (i can help out weekdays).
