[Noisebridge-discuss] how difficult to control audio cd playback on an atapi cdrom drive?

you'd think this stuff would be well documented on the web but i've had
a heck of a time finding it.

here's the plan:

standard atapi cdrom drive, the kind with a headphone jack, so it's easy
to get at the analog audio.

i want to use it as an audio cd player. i figure an arduino could easily
generate whatever control signals are needed. nothing fancy: play, track
forward, track backwards, stop. if that's too complicated, then just play.

i assume i have to issue ide commands to do this. the ide interface is
an 8 bit parallel bus, with various control signals.

seems reasonable, but i haven't dug into it too deeply yet.

your thoughts?

(apologies to those of you subscribed to the sfuc list as well, as
you've seen this already.)
