[Noisebridge-discuss] Agenda item for Tuesday: are we up to code?

I'd like to propose an agenda item for next meeting (which I'll be at).

Namely: are we up to code?

The reason I ask is that I just had a conversation w/ another NBer
regarding the fact that I called SFPD and SFFD to ask for advice about
handling the mercury spill.

While I didn't identify NB as the location - I just asked for info - I
feel extremely leery of being in a situation where I might have cause
to be concerned about doing so.

So, I'd like to know what in fact might be problematic about our
space, so we can fix it. If SFPD, SFFD, or SF Code Enforcement were to
come by someday - or for that matter, if we needed to call 'em in an
emergency - I'd like to believe that we can be set up so that they're
all on our side. And in the long run, it'd be nice if they can be
educated about the stuff we do, maybe help us out in relevant
projects, etc.

I'm well aware that hackers and law enforcement don't always... see
eye to eye, but to the extent that we can, we should. I know that some
of what we do is gray area, but that stuff is mostly (I think)
non-obvious (cops don't exactly go around with spectrum analyzers and
software forensics kits, after all). So this is primarily a hardware
and structure question.

I also know it ain't exactly a fun question to ask (along with e.g.
questions about our preparedness for hazmat), but hopefully it's one
that we can simply deal with once and feel more comfortable in the
future.

Thanks,
- Sai

P.S. If you want a more fun question: how do you get the people who
call you about auto warranties to not just stop, but pay you too? I
answer that @ 5pm Tuesday. ;-)
