I think it's a bit assuming to think that no one cares about Miah's
concerns facing transphobia. I for one do care and also realize that
she may have been perpetuating noise on the list that was already
started by that meme bullshit that everyone seemed to get except Miah
and I. As a trans-woman myself when I see transphobia anywhere it is
very hard for me to ignore it [for those of you who don't know what
transphobia is its like homophobia but against transgendered
individual rather than homosexual individuals] even if it is totally
off topic from the original thread. I thought we were supposed to be
excellent to each other? Memes may be cute but when they include a
gender binary like "bro" they may not be suitable to use on every
individual as there may be some misinterpretation from its use. I sure
as hell didn't get it and was immediately offended just as Miah when
first presented.

One of things I love so much about Noisebridge is the fact it is
accepting of everyone, including trans-people and after seeing some
transphobia emerge through this off topic part of the smoking thread I
am now very concerned that there may be some people at NB who don't
give a damn about the feelings of trans-people. I know this thread got
derailed and I am just adding to it but could people please not be
transphobic? We are already the most despised minority in the world
right now and last thing we need is to experience hate and ignorance
in one of the few places we can consider a safe space.

I'm sure I will get plenty of comments about this but I cannot just
sit here and listen without commenting.

As far as the smoking issue is concerned I think Elmar's comment was
very enlightening and I totally agree with the idea that creating lots
of rules can only hinder progress and pretty soon you have a society
totally overrun with rule and regulations looking something like the
United States where oppression and bias is easily enforced with laws.
Coming up with solutions to problems seems much more progressive than
just slapping a rule on it. Just my opinion.

Jesse
