What? You can get locked *in*?

If so that's a clear violation of fire codes, and the landlord is
legally responsible for fixing it, or at least paying to fix it,
right?

Now that I think about it, I've never explored the back stairwell.
That's unobstructed and unlocked (to exit), right?
(Those who think I'm paranoid should read up on the Triangle Shirtwaist fire.)
