Yes, my teacher mentioned AVR Studio. So it could be the "fuses".

Need a little more information:
When you say "microcontroller" do you mean "board with a microcontroller
IC?"
Could it be the "fuses" on the ATmega microcontroller IC?
You can set those with avrdude (open-source) or AVR Studio.
Can you use the "new microcontroller" with a serial port?
What's in the "AVR box?" Bring it to circuit hacking tonight and
someone can take a look...
