Software Defined Radio was really hatched at the Austin Amateur radio Club
meetings in the early 90's.

The guys realized that free Intel software existed which would decode and
generate signals. What else would they need to make a radio? A couple of
chips... they converted the radio spectrum down to the audio range
(bizzare idea ehh?), they did this because you could then take that audio
and put it into a PC's microphone input. Then you digitize it and run the
free Intel software. It worked.

Gerald Youngbood from the club- started a business around it and now is
the kingpin of SDR radios. His business is Flexradio. They are on pond
springs road. I own the Flex 3000...check it out!

[NOTE: AUDIO IS NOT SYNCHED WITH VIDEO, THANKS TO YOUTUBE]

It allows you to visually see and create signals of any type..ANY type..
and interact in real-time. It makes ALL other radio technology obsolete.

Small kits are available for just SDR receivers.. and are big fun.
