List of common reasons why people always turn down these ideas or implement
the do-ocratic ones (not my particular opinions, just the usual arguments
I've heard), just to get them out of the way:

1) Accept it as a fact of life in an open space

-----What usually happens.

-----Do-ocratic; people can greet those they don't know, to make people feel
like the community is keeping an eye on things.
-----Difficult to get everyone to participate.

-----???????????

-----NOOO, MY PSEUDO-ANONYMITYYYYY / CIVIL LIBERTIES / ETC.
-----Followed with threats to destroy cameras.

-----Do-ocratic & good idea, but a sticker that says "Plz don't steal kthx"
does not deter determined thieves, only accidental theft/misplacement.

-----Closes resources to the community.
-----No general agreement on what time curfew should be.
-----Who would enforce it?
-----Fuck that shit.

-----Difficult to determine who is a guest; do they need supervision / take
their word for it?

-----Would drive all noisebridgers to slow, painful extinction.

> 11) Commandeer mchawking as enforcement bot

-----Do-ocratic and awesome, but no one ever does it.
12) Locks and lockers.
-----Complaints about making the space less open with locked areas.
-----Concerns about people being able to hide things in the space without
community's knowledge.
-----Followed by threats to pick the locks and stuff nerds in their own
lockers.

YOU MAY PROCEED.

Oh, there was some action taken previously with the gate to deter those who
have never been to noisebridge before from wandering in late at night when
not many people may be around. I think the intention was to make sure people
needed a key or a phone code to open the gate late at night (idea is that
they have been to the space previously or were invited), but I'm not sure if
that's actually accomplished its intended result.

Plus, on busy nights like 5ofF, people are constantly entering and exiting
so it's easier for people to wander in late at night despite our attempts.

Of course, all that presumes that most people who are going to steal things,
sleep at the space, and otherwise cause trouble are only going to arrive
late at night, and not during the daytime hours.
