That requires an app on the PC you're tethering with (it's not wifi
tethering), but it works, and the developer is cool and supports the open
source community.

I was going to comment on this earlier, but really ANY android phone that
you can install cyanogenmod or AOSP/AOKP on will work for WiFi tethering
(those builds will have tethering included - it's actually part of stock
android but carriers remove it).

Also, if you want Wifi tethering, that can use a lot of power - sometimes
more power than a charger normally can provide, meaning that even plugged
in, the phone's battery might drop or even die with heavy use. Most likely
though that won't really happen.

As far as no contract, unlimited data, etc, I have no idea. I think Sprint
might still allow unlimited data, but I'm not sure.

I tether all the time with my Galaxy Nexus on Verizon without any tethering
data plan and no one ever seems to notice, so I think the only issue is
finding a carrier that will give you unlimited data.
