Oh, don't worry, I took your off-list recommendation into account.
That's why my reply *isn't* defensive -- I'm trying to understand why
the words as written down in the meeting notes have been so grossly
misunderstood.

Don't take it personally.  You misunderstood, but it takes two to
create mis-sense.  I'm taking responsibility for my half of the
equation, and wondering if I can do better.
